Capstick: Hunting The White Rhino

Peter Hathaway Capstick, renowned author of “Death In The Long Grass” and “Death In The Silent Places” as well as many other best-selling African safari books, steps out from behind the typewriter and takes you on an unforgettable experience, unique, ever-changing, challenging, romantic, dangerous and rewarding— a safari for white rhino.

No other modern writer has so influenced African safari hunting as the late author Peter Hathaway Capstick. Indeed, he is only rivalled by the legend himself, Robert Ruark.

Capstick describes the come-back of the white rhino in South Africa from the brink of extinction, solely thanks to sport hunting and the protections and financial incentives it offers to endangered wildlife. Capstick discusses the relocation program of both black and white rhino conducted by Natal Parks Board and how the two species have since thrived.

The safari begins in Thabazimbi, a short three hour drive from Johannesburg. The scene is a traditional tented safari camp. Sportsmen On Film producer Ken Wilson is the hunter with Capstick serving as backup and on-camera expert. Ken’s PH is Dirk Uys (pronounced “Ace”).
