Zambia Safari: The Luangwa Valley And Kafue Flats
Made famous by Peter Hathaway Capstick’s superb books like “Death In The Long Grass” and “Death In The Silent Places,” the Luangwa Valley was the setting of these iconic Africana books and now you can see and experience this incredible part of Zambia with Ken Wilson, producer of Sportsmen On Film, and noted hunter Wayne Pocius.
The Luangwa Valley is about 250 miles long and 40 to 60 miles wide with the Luangwa River flowing through and feeding into the mighty Zambezi where Zambia and Zimbabwe join. Wayne takes a record book Cookson’s Wildebeest here, a species found only in the Valley. A superb Nile Crocodile is also shot, on-camera in a very exciting scene.
Ronnie Sparrow is the Professional Hunter, and first Wayne and Ken hunt 2x1 with Ronnie before splitting up. Ken then takes a Spotted Hyena, a big Hippo, also a Cookson’s Wildebeest and a big croc. The sharp-shooting video producer adds Southern Impala, Warthog and Cape Buffalo.
The Cape Buffalo is exciting! Thought to be dead, it suddenly gets up and comes for the hunters! Another charge ensues from a lioness on a bait for a male lion, but the hunters manage to avoid having to shoot her. Thrilling video right there!
